Search Japanese Patents and Utility Models in English
When translating patents, accuracy is of the utmost importance. Lighthouse IP Group patent translations services aims for highest accuracy through our in-house developed dictionaries, specialist translation teams and strict QA procedures.
Lighthouse IP Group’s approach to Japanese patent translations
We have created a distinctive and extensive data set, machine translated (MT) into English of patents and utility models published in Japan from 1913 to date. The data set contains over 11 million documents, and contains searchable full text of granted patents from 1994 and patent applications from 1993. All documents have bibliographic information and intellectual property patent classifications (F Terms, FI, IPC and some ECLA);
To assure the highest quality and accuracy a team of experienced linguists monitor the machine translations process and manually translate parts of patents. For maximum understanding of patents, images within the main body of the specification (embedded or inline images) have been made available. Abstracts of patent data translations are available for patent applications from 1976 to date. The English (MT) version is produced using the latest linguistic rule-based machine translation techniques; combined with Lighthouse IP Group’s own proprietary dictionaries based around IPC codes. Some aspects of the specifications cannot be translated by machine, and for these we have a team of experienced linguists. The searchable full text data set is also available in the original language. The complete Lighthouse IP Group Japan data set will be available in 2012 to Dialog customers as part of the new ProQuest Dialog patents collection.
